Getting to CONNECT from Windows

The easiest way to get to CONNECT from Windows is to download the terminal emulator program called "PuTTY". Among other things, it can make telnet connections. Here are some step-by-step instructions:
  1. First, download putty.exe from here. If you are using Internet Explorer 9, you'll see a box at the bottom of the window which looks like:

Firefox and other browsers will pop up a different looking dialog box, but it should have similar options to save or run the program.

  2. You'll probably want to click "Save" here to keep a copy of PuTTY around in case you want to use it again later. Then, click "Run" to start it up.

  3. PuTTY will pop up its configuration window when it starts. To get to CONNECT, fill in "connect.timeheart.net" for the host and change the connection type to "Telnet". The resulting window should look something like:

  4. When you're done entering this information, click "Open". If you entered everything correctly, you should see a window with the CONNECT login banner. It looks like the following:

  5. If you don't yet have a network server ID, hit <Return> to log in as a guest and <Return> again to run CONNECT. Enter the name you'd like to use and you can then ask Maker there for an account. You can also type "help" when logging in or use the "/HELP" command once you are in CONNECT to get more information about how to use the system.
